I wanted to create a realistic weapon with a hand crafted element. The goal in creating this axe was to show that it was worn and used, and that at some point someone had a put a lot of time in effort in its creation, but battle and weather have taken their toll.

I did a lot of research on what Vikings would add to their blades and took some liberties in creating my interpretation. The dragon design was emulated from old rock and weapon carvings that have been documented in Scandinavian territories, and is meant to be crude.
Here is a example

The runes around the dragon are a prayer from the movie 13th warrior, written in danish "Lo there do I see my father; Lo there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothers; Lo there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning. Lo, they do call me, they bid me take my place among them, in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever."
