I created this room to render out a 2D image to be used in a board game that was tile based. I decided that by making a modular prop set in 3D and texturing them I could quickly iterate and make new tiles for the board game at a faster pace then painting them by hand.

I rendered out a color render with all my textures applied to the objects. I used a two point lighting rig with a directional light with some light decay and a point like as a fill that cast a light bluish green. I made sure that neither of my lights were casting shadows as they were only there for color data, the shadows would come later.

For the Shadows I baked Ambient Occlusion. I then overlay this AO render over my flat color render in Photoshop, and use the channels to set the AO to Overlay. This lets it to blend with the color and apply the shadows to the image. This process allowed me to create many rooms for the board game quickly and was a lot of fun.
